- Copy the two class examples below
- Create two examples of your own (see examples below)
- Then add your final design brief (see examples below)
All up, you should have 5 Design Briefs
Once this is complete, you will need to complete a;
- Criteria for success checklist (see example below)
- A mind-map of the areas you need to investigate (see example below)

Two class Design Brief examples
Class Design Brief (e.g. No. 1)
Class Design Brief (e.g. No. 2)
The world has recently been invaded by an army of aliens. They appear friendly when you first meet them, but unfortunately when they get close, they wrap you up in sticky tape and take you aboard their space ship. It is assumed that they are intending on taking humans back to their planet to be experimented on. Other say they are intending on eating humans. At this point we don't exactly know. As a result, you have decided to put together a animation that will be used to warn people about the dangers of the aliens. You have limited animation experience, but have decided to use Adobe Flash as you have a copy of it on your computer and it can be emailed and uploaded to the internet quickly as it creates a small file size. You have decided to make the animation no longer than 2 minutes and also not violent as you are wanting to use it to warn children also.
Two of my own Design Brief examples
My personal Design Brief (e.g. No. 1)
My Mum's birthday is coming up soon and my Dad is planning on getting her a new Mac-Book Pro. I have decided to create a happy birthday animation to put on her computer. As she turns on her computer for the first time, I want the animation to start and sing happy birthday to her. I have decided to use Adobe Flash, as it uses pictures and sound, and can integrate lots of colours. I have decided that it should be atleast 30 seconds long, but no longer than 2 minutes. I think she will like it very much.
My personal Design Brief (e.g. No. 2)
There is an animation competition being run by the company 'MyToons". Students under the age of 18 have been invited to develop a short animation on why they love education. I have decided to use Adobe Flash to create my animation. The criteria stipulates that the animation must be no longer than 2 minutes, but greater than 30 seconds. They have also requested that the animation is not violent and is appropriate to show school aged children. I am very much looking forward to submitting my entry.
My final Design Brief
Add your final design brief here... below is an example.
NOTE: You may wish to leave this until you have completed the IDEAS section. In ideas, you will explore different genres and other ideas that may influence your final design brief.
I have been employed by Dreamworks to promote their stop motion animation movies. I have been asked to create a short stop motion film to promote their stop motion department. The movie should be at least 30 seconds long and no longer than 3 minutes. It should also be appropriate for school aged children.
Criteria for success.
Create a list you can use to evaluate your project once it is complete. The list will act as a checklist to ensure your project meets the orginal design brief requirements.
- Must be a stop motion animation
- Must be longer than 30 seconds
- Must be shorter than 3 minutes
- Must promote Dreamworks animation movies/department
- Must be appropriate for school aged students
Areas of investigation.
Create a mind map, using bubbl.us or spiderscribe
Your mind map should include all the areas you must investigate (i.e. research), see the example below to get you going. An example is below.
